Description
Quality Teacher Preparation Programs - Preparing Culturally and Globally Competent Educators (Poster). Andreea Diana Bordeianu--Sava and Pamela Morehead, Oakland Univ. Every political campaign focuses mi education issues. In the last presidential campaign, democrats and republicans used their education platforms to prove their different takes on addressing the need for quality teachers. The same need was identified by both parties. The ways of dealing with teacher preparation, teacher shortage, and teacher retention were different and put on the debate table. This paper analyses the political background surrounding developing quality teacher preparation programs and preparing culturally competent teachers. There is a connection to be made between the quality teacher preparation programs and the need for culturally and globally competent teachers, able to address the global education issues that our future teachers will face. Other issues that are addressed are related to the rapid changes in the global economy and the powerful impact of globalization on education, the changes in the school system, the new policies set for education, the accountability placed on teacher development and preparation with respect to globalization. This paper will argue that teacher preparation programs should focus on preparing culturally and globally competent educators. That might be a key factor to he. considered in a quality teacher preparation program.
